TROUBLED TEEN INDUSTRY

Consultation & Training Offerings

ABOUT

trainings

As a clinically trained trauma therapist as well as a troubled teen industry survivor, raising awareness about the harms done within the mental/behavioral health industry is a top priority. Clinicians need to understand the power of a referral, as well as how to best support those who have been traumatized by therapy itself, and may show up in their office fearful and skeptical, with a constellation of traumatic impacts that may be very consistent with the patterns we commonly observe in those who have experienced these high control "therapeutic" programs.

In collaboration with other troubled teen industry specialists, trainings are offered on the following topics: â€‹â€‹

TTI Overview

What is this thing we're calling the "troubled teen industry" or "TTI"?! The overview provides background information about the types of facilities that fall under this umbrella, and what the common practices are that differentiate them from safer, more effective treatment options.

Working with Clients Impacted by TTI Trauma

There are common themes in the issues that folx who have been through these types of programs experience, and some patterns that tend to come up in therapy. Learn more about the types of experiences they may have had, and treatment interventions to support them.

How to Make Safer, More Informed Referrals for Adolescents

Clinicians hold a lot of power in the process of referral, and a lot of TTI facilities utilize misleading marketing strategies that lack in informed consent. Learn about red flags to look out for, and tools to research and assess program safety when making referrals for families and foster youth.

  • Program background and research

  • Exploring how trauma might be showing up in treatment (ie fight, fawn)

  • Case conceptualization - how their experience might be impacting their life

  • Strategizing interventions/support

  • Navigating stuck points

  • [Your challenge or curiosity that I haven't articulated - ask me about it!]

Media and research consultation is also welcome.
